Introducing Lapse: The App with built in Nostalgia

Lapse, a photo-sharing app marketed as the “invite-only disposable camera”, reached #2 on the Apple App Store Free chart. Its standout feature is that it’s invite only access: you need to invite 5 friends (not followers), in order to join; amongst other task in your phone’s settings.
So, what exactly is Lapse ?
With similarities to BeReal and Dispo, Lapse lets users capture moments in a disposable camera-style and await their "development" to access them. Once developed, a Tinder-style interface allows users to choose whether to archive the photos or share them in their "Journal" for friends to view. Users can also sort their photos into private or public albums outside of the apps monthly generated ones. The Lapse Home feed includes a profile picture with the option to add emojis, a photo loop, and the option to send a "vibe" to user's friends on the app. The app's primary objective is to foster authenticity on social media platforms, showcasing unedited images devoid of filters, except for the automatic addition of a disposable camera filter.
The standout feature of Lapse is its invite-only access, setting it apart from other similar apps. To gain entry, prospective users must receive an invitation from existing members or fulfill specific tasks within their phone's settings. This exclusivity adds to the allure of the app, creating a sense of community among its users.
With younger generations continuing to develop a thirst for feelings of nostalgia, Lapse could very well be the future of social media apps. Its blend of retro aesthetics, algorithm free interface, and focus on "friends not follows" taps into the desire for authentic connections online.
However, it's worth noting that Lapse is currently only available for iOS users, limiting its accessibility to those on Apple devices. Nonetheless, for iPhone enthusiasts looking to embrace a digital throwback experience, Lapse offers a unique proposition.
